K Raghavendra Rao has done it all from directing classics to making films to writing and choreography. And yet at the age of 78, the seasoned filmmaker keeps reinventing himself and is all set to make his acting debut. The film, written by Janardhan Maharshi, will be directed by Tanikella Bharani and stars in lead roles as well as Samantha Akkineni, Shriya Saran and Ramya Krishnan. Tanikella Bharani, speaking to the media, stated that the veteran filmmaker would indeed make his acting debut with his film. "At the launch of the film, we wanted to make this announcement in a grand manner, but yes, I'm glad to share that Raghavendra Rao gave his nod to acting in my upcoming directorial," he says. "Everyone knows he's an introvert and shies away from the spotlight," he says. But I knew that he was the right choice for that particular film to play the lead, which is the character of a clever, elderly gentleman. He was fascinated by the storey of the film and decided to headline it after much deliberation.
Touted as a social drama, the film, Tanikella explains, will be a light-hearted entertainer that will convey an important message. "It is an experimental movie, but it will convey a message as well. However in a lighter way the storey will be narrated and will not come across as preaching. The script demands powerful female leads to complement the role of Raghavendra Rao. We were looking for graceful, dignified and proud actors, and we were pleased to have talented actors on board, such as Samantha, Shriya Saran and Ramya Krishnan. The music for the film will be composed by MM Keeravani," the director adds. It is likely that the film will be released early next year once Raghavendra Rao, who is busy with the sequel to his hit film Pelli Sandadi, is ready to launch. "We expect to start shooting from February 2021 onwards. It all depends on Raghavendra Rao Garu, though. He intends to direct the remake of Pelli Sandadi and it remains to be seen if he will join our film after finishing that or whether he will work with us concurrently. Whenever we start, I can assure you that this is going to be an exciting ride," Tanikella says, signing off.
