Telugu IPS Officer Nageshwar Rao As CBI Chief

With the infighting in CBI and allegations-counter allegations between former CBI chief Alok Verma and No.2, special director Rakesh Asthana, the government has divested Alok Verma of charge as CBI Director and has sent both Alok Verma, Rakesh Asthana on (enforced) leave. In a mid-night decision, Union Government has divested Alok Verma.

And the government has appointed CBI Additional Director and Telugu IPS officer Nageshwar Rao as the CBI chief. The government directed Nageshwar Rao to take the charges immediately and told to hold the charge of director till the inquiry on Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana is completed.

Mannem Nageshwar Rao hails from Telangana's Warangal. Belonging to 1986 batch, he is Odisha-cadre IPS officer. He had been serving as the CBI Joint Director for the past one-and-half year. With the orders of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the agency of the Central Government that looks into the personnel matters specially recruitment issues, Nageshwar Rao has assumed the charge of CBI Director.
