Mumbai: In her second plea for bail after two weeks in a Mumbai prison, Actress Rhea Chakraborty alleged that the NCB had witch-hunted her at the instance of three central agencies specialised in "investigations of international ramifications" but found no evidence against her. She also says that to maintain his drug habit, Sushant Singh Rajput "took advantage of those nearest to him." The Bombay High Court will hear the bail applications of Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik tomorrow. Due to heavy rain in Mumbai, it has been put off by a day.
On September 9, Rhea Chakraborty was arrested on drug charges related to the investigation into the death of her partner, Sushant Singh Rajput, on June 14. The Narcotics Control Bureau described her as a 'powerful member of a drug syndicate.' Her judicial custody was extended to October 6 yesterday. Rhea Chakraborty says in her bail plea that it is clear that "Sushant Singh Rajput was the only drug user and that he directed his staff members to procure his drugs." She also states that "if the late actor were alive today, he would have been charged with consuming small amounts, which is a pardonable crime with a sentence of up to one year in prison."
It is "preposterous," she claims, that while the "user of drugs" will receive a maximum sentence of up to one year in prison, she will be liable to up to 20 years in prison, having paid for the drugs on multiple occasions. "Sushant Singh Rajput", Rhea Chakraborty says, "used her, her brother Showik, and members of his household staff to encourage his own drug habit while ensuring that, in the form of any electronic evidence, he did not leave a paper trail of his own. " She also said," It is sad that Sushant Singh Rajput took advantage of those nearest to him to perpetuate his drug abuse and felt it would be fitting to expose them to the dangers that would entail.”
She notes that Sushant Singh Rajput had asked his chef, Neeraj, based on information in the public domain, "to make ganja joints / rolls / doobies and place them in his bedroom" three days before his death. She said Neeraj told the CBI and Mumbai Police that he had prepared the joints and put them in his bedroom in a box and "after the actor was found dead, he checked from the box that all the joints / doobies had been eaten and that the whole box was empty." It is also clear from the evidence gathered by investigating agencies that it was only late for Sushant Singh Rajput, who was the drug user and who was in the habit of using those around him to promote his drug habit, "says the bail plea of Rhea Chakraborty."
In the 47-page petition, she also says that the relations between Sushant Singh Rajput and his family were strained and alleges that his sisters abandoned him at the "height of his depression." The petition notes that since before they met, Sushant Singh Rajput was "in the daily habit of smoking cigarettes with ganja," a habit he allegedly got into during the shooting of his "Kedarnath" movie. "Surprisingly, the prosecution did not reveal Sushant Singh Rajput's single phone call, mobile call, SMS, WhatsApp message or email as to how he procured his drugs for his own consumption, rather than accusing his entire staff , (Rhea Chakraborty), her brother and a host of others who allegedly supplied drugs for his own consumption," the bail petition claims.
The whole case for the prosecution was that she allegedly purchased drugs for Sushant Rajput, the petition says. "There is no other claim, apart from allegedly arranging the procurement of drugs and sometimes paying for the said procurement, but the prosecution calls its alleged actions" funding illegal traffic, "says Rhea Chakraborty, adding that charges against her will fall within the category of "less serious offences.”
