Noted educationist and philanthropist Alluri Murthy Raju (84), who is also the chairman, Governing Body of the Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science Warangal (KITSW) passed away at Care Hospital, Visakhapatnam, on Monday morning.
KITS management committee members including MP (Rajya Sabha) Capt V Lakshmiknatha Rao and Principal Prof K Ashoka Reddy have expressed condolences to the bereaved family members. Murthy Raju leaves behind two daughters and a son Alluri Suryanarayna Raju, who is the Trustee, Maharajah Institute Managing of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Vizianagaram.
Born on August 16, 1935 in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh into a family of freedom fighters, Murthy Raju helped a number of poor students from tribal areas, rural and urban areas by providing free education and many of them are well settled in USA, UK and other foreign countries.
Murthy Raju’s elder brother Satyanarayana Raju, who spent 12 years in Jail during freedom struggle, was the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He also worked as the president of Andhra Congress in Composite in Madras State and also the president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. Satyanarayana Raju was the then Cabinet Minister (PWD) in Sanjeevaiah’s government. Murthy Raju registered Ekasila Educational Society and started Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Sciences (an Engineering College) in 1981 at Hanamkonda – Warangal district and also an English Medium School “Warangal Public School” at Warangal.
In 1995, Murthy Raju established Alluri Institute of Management Sciences (AIMS) with MBA, MCA,BCA and other PG Courses at Warangal.
On the advice of the then Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao, Murthy Raju established an Engineering College namely “Jagannath Institute for Technology & Management at Parlakhemundi, one of the remote rural and backward areas of Odisha State in 1997.
Following the request from Ashok Gajapathi Raju, he established MIMS, Vizianagaram district. He is running a Free Hospital and also a Mobile Clinic at Nellimarla of Vizianagaram District with the help of service minded and eminent doctors and thereby extending medical facilities to thousands of people in particular Tribals in and around Vizianagaram District of Andhra Pradesh. As the Chairman of Seetha Ramachandra Swami Temple Trust Board of Bhadrachalam Devasthanam for seven years, he developed the Devasthanam with devotion and dedication without taking any remuneration.
Murthy Raju received Rashtriya Ratan (Gold Medical for Excellency) National Award in November 2001, and Pride of India award in January 2002 for his meritorious services rendered particularly in the field of education.
