For the last couple of weeks, the MeToo movement against the rampant sexual harassment in the film and entertainment industries and other fields of the society has been rocking the country. Several serial sexual predators, including some very popular names, have been outed by victims via a social media campaign.
Now, in what can be termed as a major victory for the MeToo movement, the union government has decided to set up a panel to probe all the sexual harassment allegations being made on social media. The panel will comprise of retired judges and a lawyer and it will be set up within three months.
The union minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi announced that the committee will be asked to examine all the issues regarding the allegations and complaints received formally. The complaints will be investigated in a freestyle and independent manner and also suggest feasible options to the victims.
