THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health minister K K Shailaja presented the Kerala model in the Covid-19 fight at the webinar organised by the United Nations. She was honoured as part of the United Nations Public Service Day 2020. The UN honoured public servants who are engaged in the fight against Covid-19 as part of this programme.
The webinar was on Pandemic and Public Service Delivery: examining the critical role of public servants at local and national level. Along with K K Shailaja, Dr In Jae Lee, deputy minister of the interior and safety, Republic of Korea, Andrew Cuomo, Governor, New York State, Annette Kennedy, President of International Council of Nurses, Jim Campbell, Director, health Workforce Division, WHO and Rosa Pavanelli, president of public services international.
The selection of K K Shailaja in the UN programme is seen as a recognition for the model set by the state in the fight against the Covid-19. Shailaja had received wide spread accolades in the international media for the containment of the Covid-19 spread. The screening process and the home isolation of the expatriates in Kerala had become a model for the entire country.
