In a much-awaited decision, AP CM YS Jagan has decided to hike the honorarium for the 'Grama Volunteers' from the present Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000. Jagan will be meeting with the Principal Secretary of the Grama Volunteers on Monday to ensure the new hike comes to effect at the earliest.
Jagan partially full-filled his pre-poll promise of allotting jobs to the unemployed youths by introducing the Grama Volunteers on the Independence Day. These volunteers will ensure better delivery of various government benefits and welfare schemes to the public.
Each volunteer will ensure that the Jagan government's welfare schemes reach at least 50 households in their villages, wards and towns. These volunteers are aged between 18 to 35 years and the minimum qualification to secure the post is SSC in tribal areas and Intermediate in other areas. Jagan government is spending Rs 1,200 crore per year on Grama Volunteers.
