With the shutdown of educational institutions, shopping malls, movie theaters, amusement parks, swimming pools, gymnasiums, pubs and restrictions on public events with larger crowds and big no to air travel, people turning bored at homes.
While the businesses of a lot of establishments are at the receiving end, the one and only business that looks quite promising at this juncture is OTT (Over-the-top) media services.
This has brought digital platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Aha, and et al into the limelight. Even the content on YouTube is being consumed widely with the Corona pandemic.
People cutting across major cities and tier-2 and tier-3 towns are turning towards are actively turning towards digital platforms. Even digital media experts aver that this two-week-window is a great opportunity for the OTT platforms to strengthen themselves and increase their subscriptions drastically.
If OTT platforms get stronger and more people get used to these platforms, this may effect the theatrical revenues further in long run and eventually, this is expected to have a great impact on theatres business and their survival.
