While Tollywood has already mushroomed with big production companies like Dil Raju's SVC, Geetha Arts, Mythri Movie Makers, DVV Cinema, Haarika and Haasini and other seasoned production studios like Annapurna, Suresh Productions and others, there is always a gap for newcomers too.
To cash on the craze Telugu films has, many times, Bollywood's big production companies that spend 100s of crores quite comfortably, tried to capture this market. And quite unfortunately, they have to take a backstep for the kind of losses they made here. From Reliance to Eros, UTV to Disney, every biggie tried a hand at Telugu films and ended up in a big hole to their pockets.
The latest entrant to check their luck in Telugu arena is ViaCom18 and they are now associating with Ashwini Dutt to proudly own the theatrical rights of Nag and Nani starrer DevaDas. Only if this film clicks big at the box office, companies like Viacom will be able to survive for a long time. So everyone is looking forward to their success now.
Actually, the success of a film depends on marketing strategies too, and these companies that are their own emperors in marketing a Hindi film are failing to do the same with Telugu movies. Let's hope to see some change at least now.
