AP Govt., Slaps Petrol & Diesel Charges Again: Ordinance On Levying Cess
Category: Andhrapradesh

On Friday (September 18), the Jagan-led YSRCP government issued an order providing for the levy on petrol and high-speed diesel of a Road Construction Cess of Re 1 per litre. The government is hoping to mop up Rs 500 crore annually through the move. Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan cleared the ordinance on Friday. The Ordinance amends the 2005 AP Value Added Tax Rule.

After the state cabinet had approved the resolution to implement the Road Creation Cess, the decree was passed. This is the second time in two months that the government of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has raised its automotive fuel tax. The government had previously revised the tax structure for petrol and diesel, raising their prices by Rs 1.24 and Rs 0.93 per litre, respectively, to mop up Rs 600 crore per year.
